Inb4 we have a conversation about insanely wealthy Chinese business, banking and real estate families in Singapore that embraced Christianity as a modernised approach towards Caucasian and western proximity
Cos y’all forget your forefathers (that made your fortunes) actually made fucking WAR EFFORTS with a real conscience, and now you’re just co-opting whatever feels more western so your business and family organisation isn’t too ~~traditional~~
And this isn’t a thing about a binary east v west, it’s more about the tendency for the 1% in Singapore – mostly Chinese, ignoring white people – to insidiously update their personal beliefs to keep up with prevailing western structures
Western structures being precisely the sort of colonial authority they’re trying to replicate as a proxy for a lack of social contribution. Same way the spread of Christianity was seen as benevolence even as cultures, heritage, history, and PEOPLE were dehumanised and decimated
Aka the only thing upheld is dominion and power. They don’t actually believe what they’re SAYING because it’s a means to a financial and capitalistic – and therefor POLITICAL – end
