13 years of being a doctor and I still HATE having to speak to the speciality on-call to refer in a patient. I always make sure I’m really on the ball and polite, but some of the responses we get are just unbelievable at times. Yesterday the registrar I spoke to claimed the
patient didn’t need their input - despite being under their team and very sick (admitted). Then I was told my accent was “too northern” for them to understand.
We see hundreds of patients per week and we rarely send in people acutely and unnecessarily #MedTwitter #teamgp
Also, my accent is great. Burnley ‘til I die.
