Free speech is not just a symbol of a free and democratic society; it is the bedrock on which it stands.
To chip away at free speech is tantamount to removing cinderblocks from the foundation of a home, it is only a matter of time before a storm comes and the structure falls. 1

There is a direct correlation between discovering truth and the permissiveness of free speech. The Truth requires no defence. If it is real, it will withstand whatever is thrown at it. It will be unmoved. 2
Therefore, the best way to find the truth, is to let those who oppose it, try to take it down. When nothing happens, despite their best efforts, you can verifiably determine that you are facing the genuine article, the pure and unadulterated truth. 3
A most devastating occurrence we have on our hands is the propping up of false truths. The reason why they have been able to stand, and therefore have been widely adopted as truth, is because opposition to these manufactured “truths” is purposefully limited. 4
For example, if I wanted everyone to believe that the grass was pink, then I would make sure anyone who was saying it was green was silenced, ostracised, or criticised for holding such a ridiculous viewpoint. And I would try to discredit them by calling them colour blind. 5
The postmodernist movement is much to blame for many of the ideological woes facing North American societies. It comes down to an elitist view of self, versus a fundamental trust in others. 6
There are those on the extreme left who believe that an optimal society exists only when a select “enlightened” few hold the balance of power. They are the ones who are the most moral and capable of governance. 7
They know what is best for the whole and view accountability and transparency as an unnecessary nuisance to their operation. They promise equality, tolerance and openness, but really there is a set criterion of acceptable behaviour and tolerated speech. 8
This explains how a Prime Minister can justify giving almost a billion dollars of the people’s money to his like-minded friends, with little regard for ethics or accountability. 9
It’s why he can excuse putting pressure on Canada’s Attorney General to get an outcome he wants, and remove her when she tries to challenge him. And it’s how a govt can put a values test on a grant program, where if you don’t comply with Liberal values, you won’t qualify. 10
Those on the left claim to be the champions of freedom, but really, their “freedom” is a very specific brand that must fall into preapproved categories. Anything beyond these set parameters gets relabeled as a threat to the utopian world they are trying to engineer. 11
The first step we need to take is to vehemently protect the public spaces of open dialogue and free speech, and then utilize them. It is no longer sufficient to sit on the sidelines and hope for the best. We cannot fear offending. Everything can be offensive to someone. 12
Those who are in power only have it because we give it to them. It can just as easily be taken away. The manipulation of truth and the removal of oversight, accountability and opposition are clear signs of a more nefarious agenda that can very rapidly bring down the house. 13
We must be alert and protective of our rights, for the sake and stability of our country. 14 #cdnpoli
