There is [sometimes] great utility in allowing for catastrophic failure. The ADP de-funding is one such instance. The problem in this case is catastrophic failure results in loss of life and property.

The citizens of Austin have choices:

1. Do nothing. Accept lawlessness and
[cont1] allow a beautiful city to be destroyed by increased homelessness, property crime and violent crime. Doing nothing leads to catastrophic failure and digs a hole difficult to climb out of.
[cont2]
2. Complain among yourselves and at City Clowncil meetings. Be loud, be passionate. Insist. But keep in mind they don't care what you think. They will do as they please, regardless of what you say or how menacingly you stomp your collective feet. They simply don't care
[cont3] about you. If they did, they wouldn't have chosen this path. Their choices put the people of Austin [and it's visitors] in jeopardy. They should know this. They surely know this. They simply don't care. They will not divert from their chosen path regardless of the damage.
[cont4]
3. Recall them all and replace them with people who care about the city and it's citizens. Difficult? Very. Consider it a tourniquet that immediately stops the bleeding [and thankfully results, in this case, in the loss of the exposed limb (current city leadership)].
[cont5] Is this the best way forward? A toss up, but definitely worth consideration. The question is how far will citizens allow Austin to deteriorate before acting. The longer the current city leadership remains in control, the more this beautiful city will decline.
[cont6]
4. Elections. Vote them all out. This requires promoting strong candidates who give assurances to do the will of the people rather than follow a political agenda that leads to MPLS-level destruction. It requires citizens to get off their sofas and take control of their
[cont7] city. It will require them to stop being passive when it comes to city governance. It will require turning a deaf ear to the blathering of current city leadership. Remember, they don't care about you. To remain complacent and monumentally obtuse with respect to
[cont8] the city's current state and it's future, is giving city leaders permission to continue on their destructive path.
They rely on complacency and hopelessness to give them time and opportunity to shape the city into their distorted vision.
[cont9]
I cannot believe Texans would stand unmoved during this important time. I cannot believe citizens would be too distracted, lazy, ill-informed, unmotivated or un-caring to take action.

To remain silent, when they should protest, makes cowards of men [A. Lincoln]
