Hey I'm sure most people are unaware of the patronizing ableism that has been pretty frequent at the nightly actions:
- people with visible disabilities chose to be there
- ask if someone needs aid, dont assume.
- people on the autism spectrum are adults. Treat us like it.
YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO IS DISABLED, CHRONICALLY ILL, OR NEURODIVERGENT. Masking "invisible" disabilities and neurodivergent behavior is the social expectation for anyone able to.
It just keeps going
- mobility aids are a part of an individual's self. Do NOT fucking touch someone's mobility aids or service animals unless you would put your hands on their body and drag them
Medics, your role involves placing your hands on people's bodies. You have immense responsibility. If someone is panicking or unresponsive obviously do what you must, but fucking ask consent before touching or at least communicate what you are doing. Do not use gendered language.
95% of the time, you can take five seconds to communicate and ask questions so that you can PROPERLY TREAT AND SUPPORT THEM. Know how to recognize overstimulation, dissociation. Be prepared to put your body between danger and the person you committed to helping if they cannot run
We must decolonize our healing by re-establishing autonomy and consent as necessities.
