Trans man here. I still have periods atm. I want to add to the #wombstories tag because cis men need to be better educated on periods. Too often have I had a dr dismiss my period pains as "normal". Is it normal to throw up, not be able to move, bleed for a week and have to work?
Listen to cis women and trans men when they tell you that their periods cause them pain and misery. Oh and while you're at it, abolish tampon tax! Heck, give sanitary products out for free. No one should have to worry if they can afford basic human care on a monthly basis.
I want to add, I am currently using a painkiller called 'mefanamic acid' given to me by my dr. It's the first painkiller to cut through the pain that ibuprofen and paracetamol wouldn't touch. It's an anti inflammatory painkiller but it specifically targets the lining.
It's definitely worth a try! But also, if your dr refuses to listen and do tests for PCOS or endometriosis please push! Don't take no for an answer. Our health is important and we are worth the time!
This has been a nice thread of people giving eachother advice and sharing their experiences with problematic periods. Thanks for the (95%) positive and thoughtful interactions. Women and trans men need to stand in solidarity when it comes to womb health and womb help 💪✨
Kate shares her painful journey with endometriosis and the ups and downs that come with diagnosis, treatment and acceptance in this podcast on spotify. Linking here because it may be useful for people going through similar. https://twitter.com/kateramsay/status/1295619441825402881?s=19
I want to address that this discussion also involves non binary (dfab) individuals too ❤
I have tried to use inclusive language as best as possible (tweaking my language for each & every reply) so please understand that where I haven't used the best language it isnt out of spite
There have been a lot of good discussions and suggestions In this thread and I wanted to share some of them for ease of reading.

This tweet talks about a blood test that can flag up active endometriosis. Worth looking into if you suspect endo. https://twitter.com/GardenGalAnna/status/1295652326288621568?s=19
For people who are anemic or suspect anemia, or even people who have particularly heavy bleeds during their period you can take iron supplements such as liquid iron, chlorella and/or molasses.
Any excess leaves the body when you pee. So no need to worry about levels too much. However if you do suspect you are anemic, please consult your doctor and push for a blood test. Some information about anemia and it's symptoms: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/iron-deficiency-anaemia/
Something that many trans people/ trans men may not be aware of is that if you are registered as male with your GP/dr, you will no longer recieve reminders to book a pap/smear test. As much as these tests are uncomfortable (for EVERYONE, but especially those who experience
dysphoria or aversion to their nethers) it is very important that you have regular check ups and tests. It is in your hands to set yourself reminders for these tests. Smear tests are as follows;
Age 25-49 - every 3 years
Age 50-64 - every 5 years
Age 65 or older - only if one of your last 4 tests were abnormal.
Hopefully in the future they will roll out a system that allows easy reminders for everyone with a womb and make it easier for drs to create referrals for
trans people as currently it has to be done manually and can often get held up by 'gatekeeping' in the form of transphobia and in most cases, people genuinely trying to correct what they deem must be "human error".
Regardless of identity, we only get one body. We are worth the time & effort it takes to get to the bottom of our pain & suffering. I implore, women, trans men and non binary dfab people alike to speak louder over anyone who tries squash you and make you feel ashamed for periods
