Writing in this week’s @HamandHigh how we have just 12 weeks to prevent disastrous changes to planning rules by the goverment. The reforms are a developers charter. Further weighting the system towards profiteering developers & away from communtiy needs/well planned cities.
The changes would mean:
🏠 🛑 An end to requirements for affordable housing on many developments.
💷 ✂️ No upfront payments for crucial infrastructure.
👷🏽‍♂️⬇️Losing powers to require local jobs/affordable workspace etc.
📩⛔️Giving communities little if any say on many proposals.
What should be in these proposals?
1️⃣A national policy of 50% affordable housing if sites get permission in principle.
2️⃣A policy that all homes should be zero carbon by 2030.
3️⃣Support to make sites with permission be built out- or bought out.
This is a major missed opportunity!
