When I was teaching in the Russell Group, I used to open the year by asking each student to say a fact about themselves. I remember one year where a girl said: “I have a pet horse at home.” Then a strange thing happened. The next girl said, “Me too!” And then the next. 1/?
Until one girl said something different: “I have mine in a stable near campus.” This isn’t at all to mock these students - they were harmless, sweet women - but it is a reminder of the context when we say 2020 will be “the poshest cohort yet.” 2/3
