So finally we got Koeman and my reluctant two cents regarding this are as follows. He's the only coach outside of Pep who has the authority to handle big squad changes. Anyone else will get cut down by the toxic fans and the local media and the factions inside the board.

Squad isn't an issue in this because they aren't the sort of personalities like Chelsea had. Meaning even if the new coaches if they come bench senior players or Messi (and they are fine with it) and then team loses the squad 2/n
would have had no role in that but the pressure on the coach would be so great that it will compromise their capacity to usher in those big changes, hence a bad cycle loop gets created.

Barca currently are in an insider-dominant cycle, they can not rely on an outsider Coach to lead because they won't have the breathing room to operate as required.

Koeman is a living legend of the club, even if super young fans will whine if things are slow in the transition the local media will not, neither will the socis, the squad and neither will the board factions and former barca greats/players.

This fact alone skews the balance and compensates for whatever skill deficiency one may feel about him as a coach (which is another debate and one which isn't so clear cut since he has enough chops to show for himself in positive light in pure coaching terms).

This is also why Abidal faction first approached him before Setien. Everyone in Barca hierarchy (not limited to board) knows this. Its the Dutch NT job which is making things complicated. 7/n
Barca can't wait 1 year just for him now given what happened against Bayern, otherwise Board would have indeed considered just sticking with Setien till Summer 2021 Euros even if Barca had suffered a normal UCL exit this year. #Barca
