THREAD: @20003ist asked me why I support Ed Lazere as the best candidate in the 2020 At-Large Council race. There are so many reasons and I wanted to share some of them. This is an important election, and picking the right person matters. So here’s why I support @ed4dc. (1/x)
(2/X) Go read his policy positions! Seriously! He’s on the right side of so many issues and has put so much thought into these topics. https://www.edfordc.com/issues/ . He’d show up on day one ready to fight for you.
(4/x) Ed supported initiative 77 and helped it pass via voter referendum. Don’t ever forget that YOU, DC voters, voted to support this basic decency, and the DC council overturned your will. That should infuriate you. Ed wouldn’t do that. https://www.washingtonian.com/2018/06/18/dc-council-chair-race-ed-lazere-phil-mendelson/
(5/x) Ed’s a serious fighter for DC statehood.
(6/x) Ed believes that housing is a human right. That matters now more than ever as so many DC residents lose their homes and the District hasn’t done nearly enough to help them, instead of cruelly throwing away their belongings.
(7/x) Ed cares about strengthening democracy and the fairness of our elections. He supports ranked choice voting.
(9/x) Too many DC politicians are afraid to say no to Mendelson and Bowser. Not Ed Lazere. He ran against Mendelson in 2018 for the chairmanship and ran a great campaign. He isn’t a yes man. He’s running for DC residents.
(10/x) If you care about endorsements, Ed’s list of endorsements is staggering. Karl Racine, Brianne Nadeau, DC for Democracy, Jews United for Justice, Working Families Party, and so many more incredible DC community leaders. https://www.edfordc.com/endorsements/  @JUFJ @dc4d @DCWFP
(11/x) Ed isn’t a candidate running again after previously resigning in scandal. Ed isn’t beholden to DC’s deep pocketed real estate developers.
(12/x) He’s got serious policy experience, including from leading @DCFPI. He spent years fighting for struggling DC residents to make it a fairer and more equitable place. His past demonstrates how much he cares about the people.
(14/x) Ed wouldn’t play games with us like some current council members did, saying they couldn’t raise taxes on the district’s wealthiest because they needed to do more later (🙄). He’ll be honest with us and make sure we take care of DC residents who actually need it.
(15/x) Ed’s leading in individual donations. The people support him — not rich developers. https://twitter.com/kcivey/status/1295443092632412160?s=21. If you want to make sure we don’t split our votes between candidates, letting someone we don’t want through with 8% of the vote, support Ed. It’s too important.
(16/x) Ed Lazere believes in fighting for a fairer, better connected, more transparent, healthier DC. You deserve a home like that and this November we have a chance to bring that reality closer.
(17/x) With all that being said, a lot of people are running and this will be a tight rice. If you support Ed too, please consider tweeting out your own reasons you support him, donating, and volunteering with his campaign. https://www.edfordc.com/  . And Vote.
(Edit) I messed up Ed’s handle. It’s @edlazere
