I'm not hoping for cinema's comeback. I'm hoping for more movies made at reasonable prices that don't involve investor control, movies touted for their writers rather than their stars, that pay everyone involved in an ethical & equitable way, that don't rely on stereotypes and- https://twitter.com/NPR/status/1295772941704220675
Books. I like books, is what I guess I'm saying here. Also I'm cranky right now.
Or like this. I love eating at restaurants. I still am not hoping for the triumphant return of the restaurant industry as we know it. FUCK THAT. I'm hoping for decent pay, thoughtful sourcing, sustainable food, less racism, respect for servers and chefs, https://www.newyorker.com/culture/annals-of-gastronomy/the-case-for-letting-the-restaurant-industry-die
yes I'm still cranky. should I keep going? I've already tweeted about how this is absolutely the moment for us to reform the fuck out of tourism.
I believe in travel as a crucial means of learning and building empathy and forging connections, and I am still going to say that we should come out of this more thoughtful about how and why we travel and ESPECIALLY make others travel (looking at business travel, conferences...)
I am, as much as everyone, looking forward to events with lots of people. I miss live music, and festivals. But maybe this is a moment to think about whether it's ok to normalize and promote weddings/etc that cost the same as a car? Can we stop & rethink conspicuous consumption?
Can we think about accessibility to all kinds of events for ppl who can't climb stairs/ can't deal with crowds /don't like to drink/ don't have friends to go with and need to be & feel safe or need sign lang. interpreters, etc? Can we prioritize that over Idk, onstage explosions?
if we don't do this now, WHEN? When are we going to stop and look around and think about the choices we make in how we structure our economies and our leisure?
and if not us, who?
and, ftr, not all books are diff from movies in the ways I mentioned and also I would like the publishing industry to embrace wfh and become more diverse and less invested in repeating success and also people to support indie bookstores and libraries kthx https://twitter.com/m_older/status/1295773742744969218?s=20
