I am probably beating the deadest fucking horse around, but it can't be said enough: creativity is not the fruit of inspiration. It's the fruit of time. It really is as simple as time in=creative output out. The myth of inspiration is utter bullshit IMO.
I read a study a few months back about some of the most "creative" people in history, and they all had one thing in common: a plethora of bad ideas. You can't fear a bad idea. Embrace it. In a literal sense, you will never recognize a good idea in a sea of "good ideas".
I've said this to every person who ever asked me "how do I get good at something?"-carve out time in your day. The single most effective thing you can do in a creative field is to literally schedule time in your day for the craft. Outcome doesnt matter. At all.
the 2nd thing it does, and this is the KICKER, the big fucker: it offloads all the bullshit psychology around creativity. waiting for inspiration can send you down a rabbit hole of guilt, frustration, egocentric thinking, etc. a whole world of bad shit that kills the will to make
when it's just part of your day, you stop caring about how good one idea is, cause you normalize output. you implicitly not just understand, but LIVE, like another idea is always around the corner. cause it is. always. IF you just show up.
my favorite quote(that i forget the attribution) is "inspiration is for amateurs, the rest of us show up and get to work". its so fuckin true. i hope this helps for all of you who are stuck at home, or stuck in general. love ya'll. let's get it in before we're fuckin dirt!!!
If you literally booked a 2 hour window every day for a craft, and all you did was stare at a wall for 1:45, I swear, you will have something great to show for it in a year. Booking time does 2 things: 1-it almost forces you into a body of work. THE SUM QUALITY DOESNT MATTER.
