“Women are having an especially hard time getting back into the workplace, having lost their jobs in larger numbers than men and now left wondering whether their kids will be well taken care of in September.” 👋 https://twitter.com/torontostar/status/1295865576632524801
I am worried about the typical asshats getting more than their fair share of the ear of @cafreeland. This is not the time for the usual policies. This is the time for inclusive growth, inclusive tax, income administration, inclusive institutions, and that means diverse voices
Finance needs to rethink itself as it is the bastion of the patriarchy. It has to stop GBA+, using the terrible Status of Women exclusive model of GBA+, it needs to move to true intetsectionality from the bottom up and top down in decision making and policy making
@cafreeland needs to immediately fill the Clifford Clark position with a woman (👀) committed to a horizontal view and multi jurisdiction view of tax policy design and implementation in the real world, you know, someone who understands real trade offs but that equity ain’t one
@cafreeland needs to order a comprehensive review of tariffs with an equity eye, because there is no reason on earth a bra for cars should have a lower tariff than bras for boobs or that tariffs should result in a hidden pink tax
Speaking of the pink tax, @cafreeland needs to do a comprehensive review related to the evidence related to the pink tax and the implications related to equity implications related to the GST/HST, efficiency considerations, and the related tax credit
And how about the financial sector. The financial sector impedes financial independence of women, especially families fleeing domestic partner violence, with prohibitive banking fees. We have to look to expending banking products similar to the US to support out most vulnerable
@cafreeland also needs to tackle tax legislation and tax administration. Our system is stuck in 1970. Look at Denmark, Ireland, uk, Estonia, Spain, I could go on. We could have in a blink implemented a better CERB faster. We have to be ready for the next time
There is more but dinner is ready. And at some point I think Ottawa should have to pay for this
