Growing up in GA, there’s lots of farming that goes on
My neighbor wasn’t a farmer per se, rather he was gardener
His name was Mr. James

Mr. James planted all sorts trees and plants
Apples, figs, muscadines, pears, etc.
He would give us the delicious, homegrown fruits
But only sometimes...

It was only sometimes did we get to enjoy the fruits
Because squirrels, deer, or worms would come and get them first
They would take them every year, sometimes more or sometimes less

Mr. James did everything he could to prevent it,
But they still would get the fruits

He set traps
Put up fences
Placed rubber snakes
Anything you could think of
He tried

He would labor every year planting a new tree and pruning this one
Watering them and fertilizing then

Stressing about the ones that weren’t doing as well

But every year the wildlife would come back and steal what Mr. James worked so hard on
And every year he would tell us
“Those squirrels got all my figs again”

“The deer took all my apples this year”

And we honestly felt bad for Mr. James, because he always worked so hard on his plants
And he rarely got to enjoy his harvest
But like I said, he did eveything he could to prevent it

Every week you go to work
It’s hot
It’s stressful
It’s hard work

And finally time for the HARVEST
i.e. It’s pay day
But then you look at your direct deposit
And realize automatic bills have stolen your ‘fruits’

Before you even got to endulge into a taste,
They were stolen right before your eyes!
And there’s nothing you can do about it
