Today I have been made aware of some incorrect information circulating regarding staffing of the Office of the Advocate for Persons with Disabilities (OAPD). 1/ https://twitter.com/_AUPE_/status/1295788673842049024
2 staff from the OAPD were transferred to support the Disability Services branch in our ministry, which is experiencing significant workload pressures, in part due to the pandemic. These individuals are well equipped to fill these critical staffing demands... 2/
…thanks to their experience working with and advocating on behalf of members of the disability community.

There are currently five individuals on staff at the OAPD, including the advocate himself. 3/
These individuals play an important role building relationships with Albertans in the disability community and bringing recommendations to government on key issues affecting members of this community. 4/
The current staff are well equipped to continue this exceptional work and to manage the current volume of calls and inquiries they are receiving. The OAPD has helped over 1,000 Albertans with disabilities access and navigate disability services since the OAPD was established. 5/
I want to thank all the OAPD staff members for the insights and recommendations they bring forward to help improve the lives of Albertans with disabilities. The gov't remains committed to supporting this important work. end/
