I’ve given it a lot of thought and have now decided that the last bastion of hope, the true protectors, the select that will save democracy from tyrants and overthrow gross dictators—are dentists.
Dentists will deliver the mail.
Dentists will chant sic semper tyrannus.
Dentists will deliver the mail.

Why dentists? Because dentists ARE. There are many dentists. They have flexible skills. They have equipment. They have spoken words and read them. They have professional ethics, probably. They are a body of men and women governed by norms. It is they, dentists, who will save us.
I am aware of the dentist literature and experts who cringe at such a role and I say to you, what better purpose for dentists? What better outcome that democracy supported, strengthened, defended by men and women of teeth? Does not the Hippocratic dental oath demand this outcome?
It is true, when times change, we may experience confusion when seeking dental care, expecting a praetorian guard of liberty and getting a filling. But I am certain this confusion will be worth the result.
Dentists are in every state. Every town nearly! They have drills. And masks. Large lights. Comfort with proximity to foulness. Dentists were trained, nay, born to step into this role, and when called on they will serve gladly. And we should be grateful.
It is true, there are so many others mandated by law to oversee democratic processes. Hold hearings. Pass laws. Deliver mail. Run elections. But why let such complexities get in the way of this human multi-tool, the dentist, who can do everything and in matching scrubs?
I know my dental advocacy is quirky but you’ll escape from your old fashioned mental prison and thank me for my resolute support of dental men and dental women one day. If it’s not too late.
