On the #WorldHumanitarianDay, I am creating this thread to highlight the invaluable contribution to the Human rights of someone who was honored by the US Supreme Court as one of the greatest lawgivers of the world. You guessed it right, it was Prophet Muhammad PBUH (1/n)
Although young, Muhammad PBUH became part of an alliance called Hilf-ul-Fudool. According to its agreement, members of the Arab tribes would collectively intervene to resolve conflicts to establish peace and justice. (2/n)
When he received the first revelation from God in the cave of Hira, he came rushing to his house and asked his wife Khadija RA to cover him up. He later narrated what had happened and said "I am scared from myself". To this Khadija RA, replied with these words (3/n)
"Never! By God, God will never disgrace you You keep good relations with your Kith and kin, tell the truth, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously & assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones."

He PBUH once said, “Do not wish for an encounter with the enemy. Pray to God to grant you security, but when you (are forced to) encounter them, exercise patience.” He gave the following rules of war and made sure they are strictly followed during his lifetime and after (5/n)
“Do not kill any child, any woman, or any elderly or sick person.” (Sunan Abu Dawud)
• “Do not practice treachery or mutilation. Do not uproot or burn palms or cut down fruitful trees. Do not slaughter a sheep or a cow or a camel, except for food.” (Al-Muwatta)

• “If one fights his brother, (he must) avoid striking the face, for God created him in the image of Adam.” (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
• “Do not kill the monks in monasteries, and do not kill those sitting in places of worship.” (Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal) (7/n)
“Do not destroy the villages and towns, do not spoil the cultivated fields and gardens, and do not slaughter the cattle.” (Sahih Bukhari; Sunan Abu Dawud) (8/n)

Muhammad (saw) ordered his followers to be kind towards the prisoners of war. After the battle of Badr, its captives were given preference over the prophets’ companions in terms of food. As for the captives who couldn’t afford to pay any ransom. (9/n)

Muhammad (saw) and his companions demonstrated the same kindness towards captives of almost all battles. The captives of the battle of Hunayn were even sheltered and were given new garments to wear. (10/n)

Prophet Muhammad revolutionized the idea of women's rights. He strongly said that whoever educates a male educates an individual while whoever educates a female educates a nation. (11/n)

In a society with widespread female infanticide, he proclaimed that "Whoever has a female child and does not bury her alive, nor disrespects her, nor prefers his male child above her, God will make him enter into paradise." (12/n)

With regard to the relationship with wife he said that the best among the men is actually the one who is best to his wife. He laid emphasis on the kindness towards mother, to a degree higher than the father. (13/n)
In Madinah, Prophet (saw) granted women means to develop, express themselves and be critical. Women studied, prayed and expressed themselves inside the Prophet’s mosque. (14/n)
After the conquest of Makkah, when all his enemies, the same enemies who didn't leave any stone unturned to humiliate him, killed his beloved uncle, tried multiple assassination attempts, etc. were lined up he said these timeless words and forbade them all. (15/n)
"I too say to you the same thing, which my brother Yusuf said to his unkind brothers Laa tasreeba alykumul yaum i.e., "Have no fear this day! May Allah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful". (16/n)
In his farewell sermon, he emphasized on the sanctity of human life, the abolishment of usury, doing good to women and slaves, hence linking all these apparently worldly affairs to religion and spirituality (17/n)
