Steve, of course, is right. Stop for a second and consider what in being asked for with unrestricted transport rights for UK truckers. https://twitter.com/antoniosteve/status/1296023065651027968
The whole point of Brexit is for the UK to be "free of Brussels" to "Make our own laws" and to strike dastardly "trade deal" with "The world". So what the UK asks of the EU is to let hauliers from a country that can deviate from EU rules at will to have unrestricted access.
At this point a cry of "are you out of your f---- minds" is quite modest.

No, the EU will not cede control of its own territory and its own regulatory regimes to Westminster.
No, the EU will not accept back-doors into the single market from countries with which the union has no deal.
No, the EU is not going to take Westminster on trust. Where have you kept your head the last 4 years?
Yes, Freedom of Movement is reciprocal. You take it or you leave it. You left it.
The EU is sorry for the damage caused. The union's negotiators have always considered Brexit a lose-lose. The union has wisely decided not to lose more than necessary and will not bend the union out of shape to accommodate a third country.
The UK is now - by choice - a third country.
No, the belligerent, haughty attitude of the various UK governments and political leaders has not helped. Neither has the absurd media coverage - which, incidentally, can be read by f... everyone in the EU system. We read English, you know.
But the true problem is not the attitude but the red lines. The EU is rational, pragmatic and willing to make a deal - even with the Tory Truth Twisters. But if a sensible deal cannot be reached due to the UK's red lines, you can be absolutely certain the EU will protect itself.
I grieve for the damage wrought, but it was never the EUs choice or even preference that led us here. The EU is not about to accept further damage. You can bank on it.
