Lets call a spade a spade. School is important. I want to see schools reopened also. But safely.

But what's not being said enough, is that part of the agenda driving schools to reopen, is to get parents back to work. 1/
I don't expect our government to say this, but in additions to building the foundations for our kids future, teachers also don't get the recognition they deserve in carrying our economy. Lets not pretend this isn't at least part of the UCP agenda in reopening schools. 2/
This makes it even more vitally important we do this right. In addition to our kids not being guinea pigs, it's just shortsighted to throw them back in school and hope for the best.

COVID doesn't care if our economy is suffering. 3/
If we do this wrong, we WILL get outbreaks. And schools will have to shut down, or cohorts within schools will have to get sent home and isolate. So what about those families then? Kids can't stay home and watch themselves. 4/
So lets just be smart and reopen safely for a #SafeSeptemberAB. Fund proper classroom sizes. Proper PPE. Have a safe plan. Think of it as an investment for the economy. Otherwise we just cripple the economy later when we are forced to shut down again. 5/
Edmonton numbers are climbing. They're worse than they were when we first declared a state of emergency.

Listen to the experts. Or better yet, stop backseat driving Dr. Hinshaw, and let her guide us through this. 6/
Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. Any money you save just costs you more in the end.

Swallow your pride, talk to the epidemiologists and experts. There is NO reason we can't learn from mistakes made by other jurisdictions, and avoid repeating them. #VeryWorriedAB
