If you're going to yell at me about my HRC tweet being too general (ok, I'll own that, and clarified) the least you can do is not try and rest on obvious & debunked GOP propaganda like "she would have started a nuclear war".
Also, we should be able to admit at this point that HRC would have been a better POTUS in so many ways, flawed in others, that our system needs massive change, but you can't even start that under fascists like Tr*mp, & that many crises would have been outright avoided.
The pandemic would have still have happened since viruses don't give a shit about things like human beings complicated political systems. But so much else would not have happened. Not even "not happened this way" but not happened at all.
Tr*mps presidency didn't create the racism that runs through out system BUT it has demonstrably exacerbated and encouraged it, especially white supremacist violence. We have actual data on that.
I don't think you can reasonably argue that his admin and policies hasn't emboldened white supremacists in all kinds of ways. Again, did he create them? Obviously not. Has he given a clear message he will support them? Yep. And that has had obvious consequences.
HRC's SCOTUS picks would have been VERY different for another. Ginsburg could have retired instead of all of us having to hope she can hold out. Then there's the rest of the judiciary Tr*mp and McConnell have been stacking.
Those things all of have long term consequences. We can also look at the border situation. HRC's policies on immigration needed a lot of work but there was no plan for 1. a wall 2. concentration camps of children.
HRC wouldn't have threatened states who didn't vote for her. Obviously her pandemic response would have been vastly different and, you know, science & fact based. So likely we could have had an outcome like other reasonable countries.
Yeah, she's a capitalist and yeah I think that's a toxic af system. But we can't just upend it all at once and she did have some economic policy that would have helped. Same thing with healthcare and a lot of other areas.
Plus, you can't rely on POTUS alone to change the system. It doesn't work like that. But there's so much that would have been so different. And I think that matters for a lot of reasons. 1. Learning from our history 2. figuring out how to address all issues we do have...
3. Sometimes mitigating harm is what you have to work with FIRST (in fact, it often is) while working towards radical change 4. as I say often, this is a fight we will always be having because progress is not static or final. It is ongoing.
And I'm trying to live in the past on this but LEARN from it. How we got here. Why people still want to pretend there are no differences, often profound differences, between candidates when there are. I honestly think thats dangerous & a consequence of propaganda.
I think a lot of times you see the "they're all the same" argument and people think that's an insightful or more informed pov and I don't think it is. I think it's the product of subtle propaganda to encourage apathy.
*not trying to live in the past. I'm tired and should probably stop tweeting.
