On one hand, it's absolutely true that the rumors of Affleck returning in some capacity have come up constantly the past few years, from new movies to tv/streaming series to animated voice-over. Predicting it IS a common, easy thing at a lot of sites looking for clicks. BUT...
On the OTHER hand, timing + strong studio denials = WB were keeping under wraps the fact they were considering it & then decided to get a script ready for it & approached Affleck a/b it. They didn't just now think it up, script it, & approach him, this was in the works for weeks.
Before he got a script they talked a/b it. Before they talked to him, they had an idea written. Before it was written, they decided to do it. Before they decided, it was thought up & pitched. It wasn't "they thought it up Friday, called him Saturday, he said yes Sunday."
What I'm saying is, it wouldn't be fair to entirely discount everyone who heard a series was talked a/b. I heard it & discounted it at the time, I hear it again today -- not that anything is planned/pitched/in the works, just it's an option on the table everyone is aware exists.
Maybe they won't do it. Maybe only a few sources are talking a/b it & everyone else at studio thinks it's a bad idea. But just remember: a few weeks ago, some of the same sources probably ALSO insisted the Snyder Cut would never be released & Affleck would never be Batman again.
So now it's clear Affleck was on their minds, part of a plan, approached, & said yes all while rumors circulated & the studio consistently denied it, I think we shouldn't be quick to discount the other rumors or the idea HBO Max would welcome an Affleck Batman miniseries/film.
