Had a moment this afternoon, where I thought what a waste of time, effort, money getting an additional master's degree is, given this here pandemic we have going on, and what with colleges and universities going virtual...1/
because what college is going to want a guy who has a degree in cultural studies (religion and popular culture, specifically) who wrote his thesis about the Grateful Dead and Religious Pilgrimage. It hardly seems culturally relevant...2/
but then it occurred to me that we have a lot of fun on this here app during Shakedown Streams and OMSNs and even during DaaMs (exception being any post stream melts, which I don't understand personally but I'm more Deadhead that Phan, so...
)... 3/

and more than fun...we have a community that exists virtually and IRL, and even with the pandemic that community comes together to experience something special, maybe even magical, and finds light in some pretty damn dark times...4/
And maybe that's some of the cultural relevance of this enormous project I'm working on. Touring with the Dead, with Phish, even virtually, creates that community bond through a shared experience of joy, bliss, transcendence that is happening in that particular moment.../5
and what could be more important, more culturally relevant, than finding joy and hope in shitty days like these? And it's all because of the music.
Anyway, just thinking out loud, screaming into the void. If you read this I hope you enjoyed my not-so tedtawk.
