TV companies wonder why so many people illegally stream Premier League matches in this country and then persist with a system that prevents a club's fans from legally watching their team play, despite no supporters being allowed into stadiums. The whole system is backwards.
The argument for not providing blanket TV coverage of the 3pm kick-offs on Saturdays has always revolved around the supposed fear that broadcasting them would bring drop in the number of people who go to the games each week but right now, every stadium is closed. It's bonkers.
The split between broadcasters, all with their own slice of the pie and separate subscription fees to go alongside them explains why we find ourselves in this mess.
