We need to continue having this conversation. What does restorative justice look like with serial abusers? So far, I've seen nothing that would make me confident that's a sustainable framework.
Because we can't advocate in the now for immediately abolishing all prisons while we are still yelling protect Black women, protect Black trans women, protect Black girls when there's no productive plans to keep them safe from abusers. Also, this doesn't mean police do that.
Police officers are some of the biggest perpetrators of domestic violence. However, I don't see how people can ignore the correlation between violence patriarchy and capitalism and think you can dismantle a byproduct of it (police and prisons) without addressing the head of it.
I'm going to sit back and watch how people navigate these topics of serial abusers especially in the context of Black women as victims and see what solutions and frameworks they suggest under the umbrella of restorative justice.
Let me be clear—these tweets doesn't mean I don't support abolishing prisons and police because I do but I also realize it can't be done without tackling capitalism and patriarchy first. If we aren't talking about the latter then we aren't seriously trying to abolish the former.
