1/ A thread on secession ( #capeinedependence), the law & the anti-independence propaganda campaign
The independence message has now firmly crossed over into the mainstream narrative and both business & provincial govt have reported that they are now asked out about it regularly

2/ Independence is inherently a political matter (even NPA has publicly attested to this) and those who oppose it do so almost exclusively for political reasons
But the opponents of #capeindependence have a problem
No one has answer to question @LetsFreeTheCape keeps asking

3/ "Why is it in the best interests of the people of the W.Cape to remain in a (abusive) relationship with South Africa?"
Given that there are no discernible benefits of being governed by a corrupt incompetent state who the W.Cape didn't vote for, doesn't want .....

4/ ..... and who actively discriminates against the majority of WC citizens, the opponents of secession have to look for other things to discuss
When last did an opponent suggest a benefit?
This has lead to the 'against' camp switching from debating merits of independence ....

5/ ..... to trying to convince would be #capeindependence supporters that it just isn't possible
This has developed into 2 lines at attack:
1. The ANC won't allow it
2. The law doesn't allow it
This thread deals with the second of these

6/ So we have seen a series of people (somewhat dishonestly) placing articles in the left wing media which 'show' how the constitution will make secession impossible
This argument is classic strawman
I don't know of a single independence group who thinks it will

7/ Not one of these 'experts' have been able to point to any real world examples of where domestic constitutions have prevented secessions which otherwise had all the necessary requirements under international law
8/ Conversely there are numerous examples of countries who seceded despite wishes of parent state (& their constitution if applicable)
You have to ask yourself, is someone like Pierre de Vos not aware of international law & precedent or is he just choosing not to talk about it?
