You are guaranteed a job. There are currently 40,000 nursing vacancies across England. Not only this, but 1 in 3 nurses are set to retire in the next 10 years. This shortage means nurses are needed. You are guaranteed a job immediately after graduating, and a career for life. /2
Nurses make such a difference to people's lives. A career in nursing can provide a purpose. Nurses save lives and improve lives every single day. /3
Nursing has a high level of job satisfaction. According to the AMN Healthcare 2017 Survey of Registered Nurses, 83% of nurses are satisfied with their career choice. /4
The huge variety of job settings within nursing. Nurses work in general hospitals, mental health units, prisons, schools, community settings, the army, etc. There is such a vast range of settings which nurses can work in. /5
There is also a huge variety of different specialities and areas of nursing. Nurses are also able to move between areas. These specialities include working in trauma care, A&E, palliative care, in the justice system, in sexual health, etc. The list is never-ending. /6
Opportunities to go into leadership, management or education. Nurses can be lecturers in universities, empowering the new generation of nurses. They can be matrons, managers, service directors, directors of nursing, working in clinical settings and non-clinical settings. /7
Nursing is a very respected profession. In fact, it is one of the most respected professions. You will be working in a respected, reputable field. /8
Not only are nurses very respected, but the profession has been ranked as the most trusted profession in 2018, where 84% of respondents said they rated nurses “very high” for honesty and ethical standards in Gallup's 2018 poll. /9
You have the opportunity to work with so many different people. For example, newborn babies, young children, older children, teenagers, young adults, adults, older adults, and those with learning disabilities or mental health difficulties. /10
Flexible working. 'The Interim NHS People Plan' and the 'We are the NHS: People Plan for 2020/21 - action for us all' give a clear commitment to flexible working for staff. /11
