I was going to write a note last night about what happened yesterday but I couldn’t find the right words.

We did something so important together. We organized 27 protests province wide in the matter of a couple days. We rallied support from rural, conservative strongholds.

We stood up to be heard. This act of resistance shows us that it doesn’t take money, a lot of time, or the start of a group or organization to hold this government to account- it just takes passionate citizens who care about others to stand up and speak truth to power.

Everyone who came to a protest yesterday, championed a protest or honked in support showed Alberta that there are progressives out there in their small communities that they didn’t realize were there. We created a visible network of allies. We can affect change.

Also- anyone can do this- if a 5’2 mom from Beaumont who works a day job and enjoys cheap Kirkland sangria from a “subtly appropriate” mug can do it- anyone can. I’m not special.

So I will end with this quote that has meant so much to me since I was a teenager:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
