My UI benefits will be all paid out next week.

Do ppl understand that UI is not forever? That it’s based on your income from your previous job & once you max out your bene’s, you have to wait months (depending on the state) to re-file & hopefully get re-approved.
This is my 2nd time on UI.

It carries a weight & stigma. A feeling of being a failure.

I look at friends, former co-workers & wonder what I did wrong? Where did I mess up? I thought I did all the right things?
I graduated w/ a B.A. in 08’ right @ the start of the recession.

Worked as a barista in 09’ while going to law school. Moved up to Asst. Mgr.

Finally got my J.D. in 14’ cuz $ was tight & had to extend school. All in the hopes of moving up in the world.

Retail Mgr in 16’
I applied to over 1000 jobs all over CA. Nothin.

I didn’t want to work in food/retail, but had to make ends meet.

Ppl thought I wasn’t putting in the effort, networking or trying enough.

So I worked even harder.

Got an MBA in 19’. Built a network & kept trying.
It took moving three states away to finally get a decent job in an area I was going for. Didn’t pay much, but thought it was a stepping stone. A way to move up.

Had that job for 8 months. Then covid hit.

I did what we were told to do. Go to school. Keep trying.
This is just one of a million #millenial stories.

I have no idea what I am doing next & how to make things work. It was hard before. Now, things seems insurmountable.

3 degrees & unemployed

I never would have thought this would happen.
If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you’re struggling, know you’re not alone.

I know I have it better than so many & I don’t mean to complain. Just thought I would shed some 💡
