After a hiatus because of the pandemic, @PGHGuild met with the company today. The negotiating session was the first since BCI unlawfully declared impasse July 27 and unilaterally imposed onerous working conditions.

We were extremely disappointed with today’s results.
Guild negotiators moved off our position and offered concessions on a number of items dear to the company.

We got NOTHING in return except a bad-faith bargaining stance by BCI lawyer Richard Lowe — a stance that was consistent with his position for the past 3.5 years.
Lowe repeated a well-worn phrase that Guild negotiators have become accustomed to over the years.

In response to certain enhancements sought by the Guild, Lowe said that they represented “an economic concession that we’re not willing to make.”
After Lowe took his time digesting our proposal, he was more than happy to accept every one of our concessions.

He was also more than happy to reject every one of our proposals for compromise solutions on major issues that included wages and healthcare:

“We have no changes.”
“We believe the company’s implemented wages are fair,” Lowe said.

“The union’s proposal on healthcare is an economic concession we’re not willing to make.”
Joe Pass, @PGHGuild’s attorney, told Lowe:

“We think negotiations means there has to be give and take to get an agreement.”

With Lowe and BCI, it’s all take and no give.

Pass told Lowe that @PGHGuild was hopeful that Lowe would respond in kind to our willingness to move.
No such luck.
We adjourned today’s session after about two hours.

As always, @PGHGuild reiterated its willingness to negotiate.

“If you have a change of heart in any of your positions, let us know, and we will do likewise,” Pass said. “We’re trying to reach a mutual agreement.”
Pass said he hopes to have a dialogue with Lowe.

“Hope springs eternal,” Pass said. “The consequences of not reaching an agreement are not in anybody’s best interests.”
In short, @PGHGuild came to the table ready and willing to negotiate with an intractable foe that has been — and continues to be — unwilling to move off any position, unwilling to compromise, unwilling to engage in meaningful negotiations and good-faith bargaining.
We were met today with more of the same from Lowe that we have seen over the past 3.5 years.

Joining negotiators @michaelafuoco, @EdBlazina, @mtkach, @ZackTanner and myself were @KateGiammarise, @Ashley__Murray and @joyce_gannon.
