At "Impact of the COVID-19 crisis on women in science" Event, @EMBL Director General Edith Heard lists three groups of researchers most affected by #COVID19 Pandemic:
1. Young International Researchers
2. Those working in Wet Labs
3. Those with extensive caring responsibilities
Edith Heard includes all those with caring responsibilities among those affected by COVID-19, including the fathers of young children. There must be action at national and European level to lessen the parenthood penalty. Moderation by @natgabrielli
Question from @natgabrielli, is there too much competition in science for scientists to lead a normal life. Edith Heard: What is normal? Where is the boundary between being passionate for science and being overworked? The pandemic showed us that there are other ways of working.
Tips for women scientists from less developed countries.
Edith Heard: It is not easy but it is becoming easier to access education. Be proactive about reaching out to organisations and institutes where there may be opportunities in future.
