GM partnering with Nikola is definitely a point for Nikola's credibility, but it shouldn't be taken as a sure sign that NKLA is legit. Walgreens and Safeway both had huge partnerships with Theranos.
We always look back at past frauds, and think "wow, how did smart prominent people fall for that?" But in the present, we take the association of trustworthy name as proof of legitimacy.

Maybe things with Nikola will work out. Their product and business model are not proven out, and they have definitely oversold what they have. But maybe they can catch up, successfully launch a product, and make some money.
But maybe it turns out their trucks don't sell well, Hydrogen doesn't work, or they aren't profitable on a per-unit basis. If that happens, the company will collapse and we'll look back on it as a total fraud.
