"This is the mission and you are the men. Let's go get Bin Laden," Adm. Bill McRaven says tonight, describing the moment before the Navy SEAL team started the raid to take down Osama bin Laden.
In all the preparations, the team didn't bring a tape measure -- which would help them identify bin Laden at the Abbottabad compound.
"It took the FBI 17 years to find the unabomber," former deputy director of the CIA Michael Morell says. And Ted Kaczynski was in the U.S. "We were looking for a guy on somebody else's turf."
The government's "decapitation strategy" degrades a terrorist organization, Morell adds. It takes time for a replacement to learn the job -- and also forces the group to take great measures to protect themselves, leaving them less of a chance to think about attacking you.
McRaven says Trump's comments on the military were "incredibly offensive to me." And that troops need to be in Afghanistan for a long time -- Trump recently said he expects a draw down of troops to less 5,000 by Election day.
