Domestic abuse affects us all. It is an epidemic. We need a properly funded response that works across many sectors, to support each and every person affected by domestic abuse. Today, we announce the tide could be turned for an annual cost of £2.2bn.
This breaks down as £1bn going into adult services per year, with £330m to support children and crucially - £680m to pay for perpetrator interventions (to stop abusive behaviour from repeating again and again)
A further £65.5m to pay for cultural change programmes for all frontline staff. This is about ensuring every teacher, midwife, doctor, social worker, probation officer (etc) knows what to look for and what to do. #WholeCommunity
And £5m for a public health campaign to shift attitudes forever. This is comparable to other campaigns such as drink driving information campaigns in the past. We need to stop victim blaming and put the focus on stopping the people causing the harm.
We have put this together with support from @womensaid @Agenda_alliance @barnardos @irisintervent @GalopUK @RespectUK @SBSisters @StaySafeEast @SEAresource THANK YOU. To read the full report and for more info https://bit.ly/35wqkeJ
