so many of the greatest minds of this generation are dedicated to solving consumer tech problems. how do we keep people entertained, make them buy more, learn more about them to sell their personal data (so they can buy more!)?
it's been fun but I'm fed up. we've known our ecosystem was on the verge of collapse, a pandemic a statistical probability. our society is also collapsing. we need to turn our attention towards the problems that affect our literal livelihoods and future generations.
we have BY FAR the largest national defense budget in the world. imagine if even half of that, our tax money, went towards solving these problems. I'm not sure if a climate change is the #1 existential national security threat yet, but it's gotta be up there.
it's so hard to wrangle with slow moving amorphous threats, which compound the systemic issues already festering. the fact that half the US lives in a completely different information bubble and denies these problems even exist fills me with rage and despair.
this is all over the place and I'm not sure what the point is. I've been complicit. but having a baby definitely puts things into perspective more. I want to change, do more to help, but I'm not sure what yet. it's all paralyzing.
