Leadership of response to local outbreaks now firmly in hands of councils and DsPH but most need more resources to do the job effectively and sustainably
Government needs to recognise this and provide additional funding otherwise the staff doing the work will become overwhelmed and exhausted
Government also needs to enable councils to book testing slots for local people in areas with high rates to avoid rapid testing and turnaround of results and avoid unnecessary travel or inability to get tested
Councils and DsPH are understandably frustrated about change in govt messaging from 'everyone who wants a test should get one' to 'don't book a test unless you have symptoms'
our defences against C-19 are being breached at the very time when they are most needed despite best efforts of councils, DsPH and many others in affected communities
Ministers need to explain what they are doing to sort out the test and trace system and to ensure it is working now before putting effort into promises of mass testing for the future
