A thread on Sergio Aguero and his time before Manchester City and how impressive and under appreciated it still is:
I’ll start off by talking about his time spent at Independiente

Sergio Aguero became the youngest player to ever play in the Argentina Premier Division at 15 years and 35 days old, breaking the long lasting record set by Diego Maradona set in 1976.

Destined for greatness
Although not much statistical information is available for his time spent at Independiente, it is understood he scored 23 goals in 56. His most impressive campaign in Argentina was his last
Aguero managed 18 goals in 36 games in his last year, making the South American Team of the Year and completing a record breaking move to Atletico Madrid for €23 million. All at the age of 17
Aguero’s first season in Madrid wasn’t the best, he managed 6 goals in 38 appearances in the La Liga. This still remains the only season he failed to net at least 10 league goals in his career. Impressive for an 18 year old regardless
However his most impressive part of the season came for Argentina, where he made his Argentina debut at the age of 18. The main highlight was the U-20s World Cup
Aguero managed 6 goals and 3 assists in Argentina’s run. He won the U-20s World Cup Golden Shoe and Golden Ball, as well as winning a second World Cup for Argentina’s youth team. His first being in 2005 for the U-17s
His World Cup performances set fire to him and he began the 07/08 as a different Aguero La Liga had seen last season. He ended the season on 27 G/A in La Liga as well as 5 goals 3 assists in the Europa League, averaging a goal contribution every 49.5 minutes
His impressive World Cup performances and his fiery start to the 07/08 season won him the Golden Boy award in 2007
In this same season, he carried Atletico to a 4-2 win vs Barcelona. Scoring 2 goals and assisting 1, as well as winning a penalty which was converted by Forlan. His most impressive Atletico performance to date
He won La Ligas Don Ballon award as the best foreign player for the season, beating Lionel Messi to it
Aguero continued to impress as he quickly became one of the best strikers in La Liga, in 08/09 he 17 goals and 12 assist in La Liga as well as 3 goals in his first Champions League campaign
In 09/10 Aguero won his first bit of Club silverware, winning the Europa League. Scoring 2 crucial goals to beat Sporting on away goals as well as assisting both goals in Atleticos 2-1 win over Fulham in the final
Aguero started the 10/11 as his old self, scoring and assisting in a 2-0 win over Inter in the Super Cup
Aguero ended the 10/11 La Liga season as his highest ever scoring league record, netting 20 times in 31 appearances. His impressive time at Atletico attracted the attention of Manchester City, who eventually he’d go on to join for a reported £36 million, bargain.
He ended his time at Atletico with 100 goals and 46 assists in 230 appearances. The rest is history
