For many people I know, this, of all weeks this year, was the one where it got really hard to get out of bed.

Most of the people I know live on the west coast, so it’s not surprising. The air is a strange, post-apocalyptic color. The fires rage, and there will be more.
This after going home in March, and figuring that out. And after the murder of George Floyd, watching the violence raining down on American protestors exercising their rights. People are tough, generally. We find a way to take care of our responsibilities, even when shit’s hard.
I mean, I could go on all day, about people in higher risk groups adjusting to life without human contact. Parenting this year. The particular exhaustion of realizing that once again you aren’t seeing justice when it seems like a no-brainer.

I have a point. Here’s my point:
You’re not alone. You’re not the only one feeling this way. It’s hard for people who have their shit together, it’s hard for people whose lives are ordinarily a raging success.

This is what it looks like to have your shit together right now: it’s hard. Your reaction is normal.
Just wanted to say this in the public square cause I’ve seen many people beating themselves up. It would be weird if your self-preservation and your empathy circuits weren’t screaming. It just means you’re a feeling human who gives a shit.
That’s all! Have a good day. If you have an extra buck, donate it; seems to help people feel better. Works for me. That and watching dog adoption videos.
As my dear poet friend who died before I was born liked to say, just keep going. No feeling is final.
