There is a child sex panic happening on the right with QAnon and on the left with CUTIES that makes me think everyone needs to read about Lee Edelman’s theory of futurity in NO FUTURE
Namely, two aspects of futurity should be considered at this moment:
1. Societies in crisis exhibit anxiety about the figure of the (str8, white, middle class) child...even societies, like ours, which subject tens of millions of kids to poverty, homelessness, coronavirus etc

Also, 2. It’s easier for most ppl to imagine “stranger danger” & imagine sinister plots agains their kids (committed by unknown trans/queer ppl, Alex Morse, Hillary Clinton supporters, Hollywood) than to admit the most likely person to abuse a child is a member of their family
I haven’t delved into QAnon yet (where to start?) but I am getting worried about collusion between the left and right in sex panic in various domains & ppl (QAnon, school bathrooms, trans athletes, Alex Morse, CUTIES) which seem to be popping up increasingly
In this messed up world we have created, the family is seen imagined as the safest space, even though it’s the most common site of violence & disease transmission. So we would do well to think hard before projecting our collective fears & anxieties upon strangers about children.
The criticism of CUTIES I’ve seen isn’t really a labor criticism of the working conditions of kid performers (not that anyone in the US, which made JonBonet Ramsey, should have much to say about working kids in France) but an anxiety about how it could increase stranger danger
I HIGHLY doubt many of the people screaming about “the children!!” in response to CUTIES care much about the mortal danger which killed Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, nor care about the danger US politicians & biz leaders put millions of kids in via poverty.
It’s also worth noting that the defund the police movement is a movement against sexual violence. I have seen NYPD molest the genitals of Black ppl, some likely teen kids, out in the open.

...and when they do, let’s not tar and feather them. It’s unfortunate one device tracks every aspect of our professional, sexual and interpersonal lives. If it can happen to Capt America, it can happen to anyone.
