It feels as though the short pre-season has made a massive difference to #NFFC.
In normal seasons, this would be seen as a fresh start; a new beginning. The slate would have been wiped clean following a couple of months without football.
This time, the cloud of disappointment and frustration that followed the incredible, painful collapse in the final weeks has not had the chance to clear.
There has been no room for the hope and optimism that normally comes with the start of a new campaign to shine through.
Instead of being viewed as a slightly unfortunate defeat in the first game of the season, what unfolded yesterday is seen as seven games without a win and the same old problems still haunting Forest...
The failures of last season are lingering more than they normally would.
The end to last season was awful. But there was an inquest and Forest decided to stick, rather than twist, for once.
They backed the manager with seven new signings, the squad is stronger - they are better equipped this season.
There is huge pressure on Lamouchi, as there always is on any Forest manager.
The cold, harsh truth is that a struggle over the next eight or ten games will almost certainly have consequences.
Nobody is claiming everything in the garden is rosy... it isn't. Improvement is needed
Forest desperately need a win against Cardiff, just to banish a few demons and put a smile back on faces - to appease the hangover from last season.
That would normally have eased with the passage of time over summer. Now Forest have to find a way to change the mood themselves.
They need to find a way to help people remember that it was still the best season Forest have had in almost a decade... and to suggest that they are capable of something similar - and perhaps even better - this time around.
