How to sleep like a king

THREAD ⬇️
1) Avoid training <2hours before bed.

The most committed trainers will always find a way to train, but try to avoid doing it too late in the day.

Heavy deadlifts or squats right before bed will have your adrenaline levels through the roof which will negatively impact sleep.
2) Be wary of caffeine.

The half life of caffeine is 6 hours, so time your consumption correctly.

Majority of people will benefit from cutting caffeine intake from around 2-3PM.

Switch to decaf drinks the later the day goes on if need be.
3) Get a sleep schedule.

Go to bed and wake up and the same time each day, even on weekends.

We're creatures of habit, don't let bullshit like netflix or playing video games get in the way of sleep.

Don't mess with your circadian rhythm.
4) Dark room.

Any sort of artificial light reduces our ability to fall asleep.

Use blackout curtains, keep your phone out of sight and use side lamps before bed.

Make your bedroom like a cave.
5) Cool bedroom.

Ever wonder why its easier to fall asleep in the winter when its cooler?

Our bodies internal temperature needs to drop in order for us to fall asleep.

Keep that room as cool as possible.
6) Avoid napping after 3pm.

The closer you nap towards your normal bedtime, the more difficult it will be to fall asleep.

Keep naps as far away from your bedtime as possible in order to get a good nights sleep.
7) Relax.

Give yourself time before bed to escape from the stressors the day has brought about.

Reading a good book for 15-20 minutes before bed is a great way to do this.
8) Buy yourself a quality bed.

Don't skimp on a bed, mattress, duvets or pillows.

We spend a third of our lives in bed, so buy the best quality and comfortable things for you.

Don't be a tight ass.
Sleep is the best thing you can do for recovery and that's not up for debate.

No bullshit supplements or 'hacks' will cut it.

If your sleep goes to shit, your training will follow.

Take your sleep as serious as your training!
