The @USPS postcard issue is important because the “one size fits all” info provided is confusing to voters. Each state has different voting specs.

The @USPS shouldn’t be confusing voters.

Some SOSs asked to review the info b4 the cards were sent, but were denied.
Then those SOSs asked that their state be taken off distribution list. Also denied.

If the @USPS wanted to HELP voters, they could have simply asked SOSs to provide accurate info about voting in their states.
50+ different cards, which is harder than one card, but its not complicated.

Card 1 goes to AL. Card 2 goes to AK. Card 3 goes to AZ. Etc.

Instead we have a card that might not match ANY state’s guidelines. I don’t know.

Let’s look at TN.
In TN, sadly, a voter cannot just “request” a mail-in ballot. The voter must have a reason. For sure, request one! But the language should have said, “if you qualify”, because that is the law.

The 2nd problem w/ this one-size-fits-all card is the “at least 7 day” guidance. No.
31 states, including TN, require that the ballot ARRIVE by Election Day. Will 7 days be enough?

Other states allow the POSTMARK (either Election Day or day b4 Election Day) as the valid ballot deadline. They can arrive days after Election Day in those states & still be counted.
So what is the practical advice given the @USPS slowdown?

It’s not 7 days. It might be more like 10 in TN. Maybe longer. We’ll see.

As soon as ballots go out in TN, we need to share when ballots were sent, and when they are marked “received” on http://GoVoteTN.com .
I will post that info!

And don’t get me wrong! I hope 7 days is enough! I hope 3 days will be enough!

But we don’t KNOW.

@USPS DeJoy, in cahoots w/ Trump, is slowing the mail. How dare they advise a mail-in deadline that hasn’t been tested yet. 7 days may not be enough time.
So the very best advice is to order your absentee ballot (if you qualify), today, & certainly by Oct 5th, which is also the last day to register to vote in TN.

And then @VoteEarlyTN — at the polls during Early Vote, or by mailing in your absentee ballot as soon as you receive!!
Disregard the info on the @USPS mailing, as the 7 day in advance mail-in ballot advice may not work for some states like ours.

Other states are suing because of this ill-advised, reckless advice, which is contrary to guidance being given in those states.
Finally, track the following & share:

—Date you sent your absentee ballot application
—Date you received your absentee ballot in the mail
—Date you mailed your ballot (hopefully same day you received it!)
—Date ballot was received by the state by checking http://GoVoteTN.com
