What Dear White People
When you make posts that seemingly protest Black Lives Matter, what “I” see is discrimination. I try so hard not to judge because I love and respect you. (1/x)
But my experience tells me that many of you feel that “individuals of non-white backgrounds are broken and less.” It is hard not to interpret your posts as “police are more deserving of respect than the blacks that they abuse.” It tells me that you can’t see or understand (2/x)
what it means to be underprivileged or without equal rights or human respect in today’s society.
Many of you consider me to be “white”, and for the most part so do I. Here is my reality. Both of my father’s parents were black. My Dad’s grandfather was “mistakenly” (3/x)
shot on a train on his way home from work. The train’s conductor later admittedly he made a mistake but was never charged. My white mother carries an FBI record for de-segregating a white neighborhood in Philadelphia when my parents purchased their first home. (4/x)
My father and his family bleached there skin to “fit-in” in North Dakota so that I could be raised “white.” Despite my mostly white background and my families attempt to hide my heritage, (5/x)
I was still bullied while growing up in a very prejudice North Dakota.
I love my colorful family and hope and pray that they and their children are safely embraced by a welcoming society. Be careful what you put out into the world. Before you post anything, (6/x)
