the recrowning scene and why it's so important because i still see people misunderstanding it
first we need to go all the way back to middle school, in a way kageyama felt as if everyone in his life had left him
Miwa quit volleyball, his grandfather passed away, his upperclassmen that he adored so much graduated and he was left with no one to chase after.
because of all of these things, he was using anger as a coping mechanism, the final blow was his teammates refusing to hit his toss and his dreaded nickname 'the king of the court' haunted him.
after this he was living in despair. he never felt more lost and lonely in his life
then he met hinata, he and the rest of karasuno welcomed him with unconditional love
however kageyama was not fully healed, he still had trust issues. he was terrified that his new teammates would betray him the same way his former ones did if he didn't act a certain way.
for months he was desperately trying to hide himself and act like someone he is not, except around hinata.
he was able to act genuine around hinata because he knew for a fact that he would never leave him. they promised to be together for eternity
going towards everything was working out just as he had hoped, until the all japan training camp.
atsumu had told him that he is nothing but a 'goodie two shoes'
kageyama had a hard time understanding what he meant by this. he was confused, he thought that being well behaved was a good thing.
on top of this atsumu states that people who can't hit his tosses are nothing but scrubs. kageyama was dumbfounded.
atsumu miya, who is a well respected player and considered one of the best high school setters in the nation, was able to say these things without repercussions. kageyama on the other hand was shamed for having this mindset
he started to think back on all the things that he hated himself for and was mentally not in a good place for the time being
when he arrived back at karasuno he was on edge, and hinata noticed that he wasn't acting normal and was observing him
kageyama was acting out on his anger towards himself and projected it onto other's.
once he finally snapped he was completely disgusted with himself
everything he had worked so hard to hide about himself came crashing down within an instant, he was terrified. he thought they would abandon him, he thought he would never be able to come back from this moment
he tries to immediately apologize but hinata intervenes. and stated that there isn't really anything wrong with him being the king
a giant weight has just been lifted off of his shoulders, all of his fear that his team would abandon him was a thought that was constantly in the back of his mind. he had so much troubles accepting the fact that karasuno loves him unconditionally.
hinata recrows kageyama as 'the new king of the court' taking his dreaded nickname that he has been dwelling on for so long and redefining the meaning behind it, turning it into something he can be proud of. telling him that he doesn't have to hate himself.
kageyama in this moment finally accepted who he is, hinata taught him to love himself. he wasn't being rude for no reason, he has been pretending to be someone he's not for far too long.
