Singing & performing are art forms that require just as much work as songwriting. We love that @BTS_twt members can sing, rap, perform AND write songs! Several also produce these songs.
But what's the difference between Composer, Lyricist and Producer?

But what's the difference between Composer, Lyricist and Producer?

Artists that write lyrics AND melodies are usually called SONGWRITERS. One may be credited in a song's creation if they contribute to any part of the lyrics OR melodies. Counting compositions & lyrics, ALL @BTS_twt members have songwriting credits!
Let's break it down even more.
Let's break it down even more.
A COMPOSER creates melodies.
Melody = the musical notes that connect the lyrics.
Melodies can be created on a piano, a digital audio workstation, loosely over an instrumental ("toplining", like @BTS_twt V does in this video) or without instruments.

INSTRUMENTALS = pieces of music performed with live instruments, or non-vocal (distorted or altered vocals are an exception) sounds arranged in a digital audio workstation.
A LYRICIST writes words for a melody that's already composed or lyrics that may be transformed with new melodies.
Writing lyrics is an art form with its own challenges (as seen from SUGA's drafts); similar to, but NOT the same as, writing poetry or prose.

A MUSIC PRODUCER guides the musical direction of a song. They may also create instrumentals on a digital audio workstation (
SUGA).

. @BTS_twt album credits usually follow the order: SONG TITLE Producers Songwriters (no distinction between composer & lyricist)
When more than 1 artist is credited, there's no rule as to which order must be followed. We don't have information about the criteria @BigHitEnt uses.

Unlike official album credits, @BTS_twt's SoundCloud releases sometimes distinguish between composers and lyricists.
One example is 약속 (Promise). We see Jimin and Slow Rabbit as the composers & Jimin and RM as the lyricists. https://soundcloud.com/bangtan/firstjiminpresent

In addition to being composers, lyricists & producers themselves, @BTS_twt works with many talented in-house ( @BigHitEnt) singers, musicians & producers, as well as regularly collaborating with incredible talent outside of their agency.

What do you think about @BTS_twt's crediting or creation process? Was this brief #AskR3 thread helpful? Do you still have questions?
