What makes the 80's the best decade??

Maybe... The spectacular influencer marketing campaigns.

Here's 5 examples from my favorite decade.

Quick thread 👇
1. 1982: E.T. + Reese’s Pieces

The main character, Elliott, guides E.T. around the house by dropping bits of candy on the floor.

What candy was it? Reese’s.

In a few weeks, Sales jumped 65%
2.

1983: Risky business + the Wayfarer

Ray Ban was gonna cut the Wayfarer? But came back to life after a placement on Tom Cruise’s face in Risky Business.

That same year, sales increased to 360K

(For the record though, I’m team aviator. Top Gun > Risky Business)
3.

1983: Christie Brinkley + CoverGirl

Christie made an iconic cameo in '83 as the model in the red Ferrari.

She was all over TV, doing media rounds, giving beauty tips. CoverGirl was smart + ran ads feat. her at the same time.

Win-win: Christi + Covergirl 🆙 their influence
4.

1984: Michael Jackson + Pepsi

Maybe the height of @pepsi marketing. The drink alternative for the next gen

They used Billie Jean with Pepsi-themed lyrics, and a perfectly-timed appearance by MJ at the 40-sec mark (I get goosebumps every time)

... is that Carlton?
5.

1988: Bo Jackson + Nike

Remember, at this time @Nike was still behind Reebok

Nike wanted to capture some of the cross-training shoe market. Bo was the perfect partner—Football + baseball hall-of-famer

They went from 40M in sales to 400MM. And Captured 80% of that market
