How many of the world's greatest creatives do what they do because "Fuck you."?

Spite is one of the most powerful creative forces you can have but, we never talk about it.

A desire to create to prove someone/something wrong. (thread).
And yet, in this socio-political climate, I find myself shaming these thoughts when they come to mind.

I edit what I think and say, trying to suit a narrative I was given rather than one I've chosen. Telling myself these feelings have no place in the world.
Even though they've fuelled some of my best work.
I used to wonder why I was into martial arts, chiptune, metal and now crypto and futurism.

And it's because that's where the interesting unusual ideas are.
It's where people are harnessing their spite, their anger, the feelings they were told they can't have, to create and bend the world. Building what they need to see, or what they believe the world needs to innovate and grow.
Whereas, the people who hide these feelings are the scariest you'll ever meet.

They'll conform and happily drown in their own self inflicted suffering.

They hide their true feelings, for an ounce of pride, even if it eats them alive.
We all need outlets.

We all need a bigger reason to create, whether it is sparked with love or hate. But, I wish there was more discussion around creativity born from the darker side of our emotions.

What's wrong with channelling our raw instincts sometimes?
Sometimes we need to destroy our cage, not repaint it.
I will probably expand on this idea in future months/years to come. I've been toying with this thought for the best part of two years and only now been able to put it into writing.
