A few thoughts about transfer in light of Covid-19:

It is simply not the case that any scores exist within primary schools to take the place of transfer this year. Primary assessments are formative and not comparable across schools.

1/5
Primary principals can never be asked to nominate a specific school for a child in preference to others. No primary principal recommends any post-primary school above any other.

2/5
Many primary principals are ideologically and ethically opposed to academic selection. They cannot be mandated to host unregulated and non-statutory assessments. The notion of hosting tests in primary schools would lead to inequity.

3/5
Responsibility for a contingency plan lies where it lies. Questions about a Plan B for this year have been vocalised since April.

4/5
The fact that parents enrol their children in the transfer process should not be tacitly read as their support. Rather, it simply reflects the reality that they and their children face.
