Lessons learned from my dad, and how I applied them in my life.

Extremely hard working, caring by cooking you meals, and always checks up on your math grade (He really played to the perfect Asian stereotype).
Throughout my life, my father wasn’t always around.
It was my mom and I.

My dad worked in China while giving my family an incredible life in Canada.
He’d split 6 months between China/Canada.
He’ll be home for 1 month, and gone the next.
My mom and I used to send him off to the airport, and I’d bawl my eyes out unwilling to let him leave.

You never get desensitized by your dad leaving.
Every time was just as emotional as the last.
When he was around, he taught me a lot of life skills at a young age.
I remember him teaching me how to cook eggs at the age of 3,

And how to pitch in softball.
All the things you can ask for from a father, he delivered.
He even recorded on a camcorder, all the events in my life.
There are literally hundreds of DVDs with events from recitals, birthdays, Christmas, etc.

As my dad worked from China, I didn’t get a chance to see how hard he worked.
The older I got, the more I understood.
When he was in Canada, I would see him working most nights until midnight.
He would work on new projects or ideas,

Spending hours on end trying to find the solution to his problem.
He was essentially a workaholic.
His goal was to provide the best life possible for my mom, my brother and I.
Everything he did was for the family.

From teaching me life skills at a young age to even now.
From learning how to open/close a pool,
Powerwash, clean a roof, how to build a fire, how to ripstick, and most importantly,
How to work hard to achieve your goals.

I began understanding the importance of spending time with your loved ones.

My answer was always, “No, because he spends a lot of time with me when he’s here.”
It’s not about how much time someone is here for,
It’s about the quality of time spent.
I wouldn’t change anything in the world for the relationship I have with my father.
