Tom Hardy is a 40+ year old man. If he plays Lt. Jimmy Cross, I will boycott.
Please, Hollywood, watch 1917: Kids. When you tell stories about soldiers, you're telling stories about kids. 19 year olds led by 23 year olds. And the old heads are 34. https://www.google.com/amp/s/taskandpurpose.com/.amp/entertainment/the-things-they-carried-film

Military is the kind of place where when you hit 40, people, with zero irony at all, call you "the old man."
Greyhound just barely worked because of a small line of dialogue where Hanks explains he is a middling officer who was career Navy but never advanced so he was much older than his peers. An he was the captain of the ship. Just barely.
I feel very strongly that war movies, for as long as they will be a genre, should be where you dig around for young talent who can stretch themselves. This is where you have a chance to find the next generation. Embrace it. Tom Hardy doesn't need to pretend he's 24.
This is what great war movie casting looks like: Kids who look like they should be maybe a year or two removed from living with their parents.
