Masks will now be required for players and staff while engaging in pre- and post-game interactions (previously strongly recommended, now required). They are also strongly encouraged to wear masks anytime they are not actually on the field, playing in the game.
Clubs will now have expanded bench area (from the 20 to the 20) in an effort to assist with distancing on sideline. Increased distancing, mask usage while on sideline could help prevent someone from being identified as a “high risk” close contact, in the event of a (+) case.
High risk close contacts must be isolated away from facility for five days. As a result, being identified as high risk close contact - even if asymptomatic and testing negative - can be costly in terms of missed time.
As Dr. Sills (NFL CMO) reiterates, goal is to “wall off” the virus after someone tests positive, avoid spread within club. As part of that effort, those identified as “high risk” close contacts (based on interactions with the individual(s) who tested positive) are sequestered.
